Auto Bladder Volume - overview

Bladder volume is a protocol-based measurement tool for calculating urinary bladder volumes. The protocol, when used with the Vscan Air CL, utilizes a deep learning algorithm that automatically places the measure calipers for transverse and longitudinal views.

When using the Bladder Volume protocol with the Vscan Air SL probe, the measurement calipers are placed at default positions for the transverse and longitudinal views. The automatic suggestion for placements is not available with the Vscan Air SL probe.

Measurements can be adjusted and can be accepted or confirmed by storing the on-screen image.

The bladder volume is calculated using three distance measurements. Two distances are taken from the transverse image and one distance from the longitudinal image.

Keep the walls of the bladder within the field of view when scanning. This makes it possible to accurately place the measurement calipers or alternatively confirm placement of automatically placed calipers when storing the image.

The auto caliper placement algorithm was validated using adult subjects with no pathologies in the bladder area. The validation dataset included measurements ranging from 10-60 mm in the head-foot dimension, 5-60 mm in the anteriorposterior dimension, and 5-40 mm in the left-right dimension.

These measurements correspond to bladder volumes of approximately 30-700 ml.

Validation data demonstrated >90% success rate* in automatic caliper placement for bladder volume measurements using the curved array transducer of the CL probe when the bladder wall is entirely visualized.

*Success rate is defined as the average result of caliper points being within mean +/-1.8 standard deviation of interobserver variability analysis.

NOTE
• Auto Bladder Volume or Bladder Volume is only visible in the Tools menu if it is purchased.
• Auto bladder volume is not available in Vscan Air Guest mode.
• Avoid scanning non-bladder organs while utilizing the Vscan Air CL auto bladder volume tool. The deep learning algorithm will inherently try to place calipers on images provided independent of the organ being scanned.
• Orient the display device to view the ultrasound image in a landscape layout when using the Bladder volume protocol whenever possible.
